This was a great event co sponsored by BIG, the Interfaith Chaplaincy and many other groups on campus.
We invited Antonia Lassar, to perform her one-woman piece called "The God Box" and then to a short dialogue after.
"The God Box" was entertaining and emotional. Antonia transformed a space in the Rapaporte Treasure Hall into living rooms, temples, churches and farms farms using only some basic furniture and black curtains (that the e board hung up quite nicely). Every character was vibrant and appealing. The audience accompanied Gloria Adleman on her quest to find her daughter's religion; sometimes we were frustrated with her intolerance but by the end, we delighted in watching her learn and take part in her story.
The dialogue after centered around the idea of hard tolerance and soft tolerance.
hard tolerance--acting to learn about others' beliefs and educating about your own. often involves hospitality
soft tolerance --understanding and accepting that people believe differently
What are examples of hard tolerance that we have experienced? How can we make hard tolerance more available?
For more about Antonia, she has a website. Apparently she performs at Hogwarts! next field trip?
Also, she has a twitter. So do that please.
Peace, love and cheesecake

God Box is an award winning one-woman-show written and performed by Antonia Lassar and directed by Nikki DiLoreto. When her daughter dies, Gloria Adelman discovers the unthinkable- her daughter wasn’t a practicing Jew! Amid Buddha’s and Bibles, Gloria searches for her daughter’s true faith in order to give her the right funeral. God Box is a hilarious and poignant tale of how faith is passed on, and what happens when it isn’t.
